Christmas day, President Trump tweeted “Made many calls and had meetings at Trump International in Palm Beach, Florida.”
He asked “Why would politicians not want to give people $2000, rather than only $600? It wasn’t their fault, it was China. Give our people the money!”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced she will hold a Monday vote to approve $2,000 relief checks, a proposal espoused by President Trump himself.
This comes after Pelosi attempted to pass the $2,000 checks by unanimous consent, a move that was rejected by House Republicans.
Republican Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) warned that Trump’s demand for $2k checks for Americans instead of $600 won’t pass the Senate and urged him to sign the package as is.
Blunt said “it took us a long time to get to where we are. I think reopening that bill would be a mistake.”
He added “the best way out of this is for the president to sign the bill, and I still hope that’s what he decides.”
Asked if a bill providing $2,000 checks can pass with 60 votes in the Senate, Blunt replied “It would not.”
